President John Mahama will later on Monday inaugurate\u00a0the refurbished Kumasi Airport.<\/p>\n

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu the II is expected to join the President for the ceremony.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”2tGctTPpzp63E3TwZ9N1WFdh3biPW0i0″]The completion of the $29 million rehabilitation project\u00a0will now enable the Kumasi airport to allow planes to take off and fly in at night.<\/p>\n

In October this year, the Ghana Airport Company partially closed the airport to upgrade the tarmac, install an airfield ground lighting system and upgrade other facilities at the airport.<\/p>\n

The situation angered airline operators and passengers<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0who said the unannounced closure caused them to lose thousands of dollars and created inconveniences.<\/p>\n

The commissioning of the completed project by the President will pave way for the commencement of night operations at the Kumasi Airport.<\/p>\n

The airport is currently only open to traffic for 12 hours daily, from 6am to 6pm.<\/p>\n
