President John Mahama has assured that the 2016 general elections will be very peaceful.<\/p>\n
According to him, the prediction for the upcoming elections stems from a research conducted by pollster Ben Ephson on the impact of the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling in the 2013 election petition.<\/p>\n
\u201cAbout 81 precent said the election petition had made them understand Ghanaian elections better,”he stated.<\/p>\n
The NPP, filed a petition in 2013, challenging the results of the 2012 elections at the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”d2L7TlBjZC2xs1ej286HF0yjjfWyB7Gj”]The party alleged that there were infractions in the process that eventually favoured President John Dramani Mahama.<\/p>\n
The Supreme Court however endorsed the Electoral Commission’s declaration that President Mahama indeed won the elections.<\/p>\n
In a speech read on his behalf, the President said: \u201cI believe that the 2016 elections will be very peaceful because of the outcome of the research into the impact of the election petition.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mahama’s prediction of the 2016 elections contradicts that of the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South Constituency, Ursula Owusu who has warned of a p<\/span>ossible violence in the upcoming elections<\/strong><\/span><\/a> if electoral reforms are not implemented.<\/p>\n Madam Owusu believes that the issues from the previous general elections that were exposed during the hearing have not been resolved by the Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
