The Police have begun formal investigations into the collapse of a restaurant under construction<\/strong><\/a><\/span> in Cantonments, a suburb of Accra on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The incident\u00a0resulted in the death of one person<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and twelve others sustained various degrees of injury.<\/p>\n

It took a rescue team drawn from the Ghana Police Service, the Military, the National Disaster Management Organization and the Ghana National Fire Service about 12 hours to pull out \u00a0the body of a carpenter who was trapped under the debris.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”UptzlW5XxjnGdkeKdNgmZ0f3tgQIqrRI”]The Public Relations Officer of the Accra Police Command, ASP Effia Tenge told Citi News <\/strong>that they were \u201cthirteen in all and one unfortunately found himself under the rubble, the twelve were rescued sent to the hospital then nine of them treated and discharged.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNormally in a rescue operation like this our major objective is to rescue the people who are under the rubble, so immediately when we rushed here that is what we did,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, one of the workers [name withheld] in narrating their ordeal to Citi News<\/strong> said, \u201cWe were at the top, one of the carpenters was down there…\u00a0then suddenly the building collapsed and we fell down. I was hurt at my knee and bruises on my elbow but the carpenter who was down there died.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been building the project for the past one year now. The building is a Lebanese restaurant. I have been working here for the past three months. It was only yesterday that we worked at the night, and that happened,\u201d he narrated.<\/p>\n
