{"id":72214,"date":"2014-12-08T05:30:35","date_gmt":"2014-12-08T05:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=72214"},"modified":"2014-12-07T22:55:03","modified_gmt":"2014-12-07T22:55:03","slug":"npp-calls-off-planned-demo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=72214","title":{"rendered":"NPP calls off planned demo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ashanti Regional leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called off a planned demonstration which was scheduled for Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/12\/07\/wontumi-to-lead-another-npp-demo-in-kumasi\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;0CBusKmaIfvJZzxFQyQTMm2BIFyDgOwA&#8221;]The demonstration<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0was expected to mobilize thousands of Ghanaians and party supporters from across the region to protest against the Mahama-led government&#8217;s handling of the economy.<\/p>\n<p>But speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, Sam Payne said the upcoming Christmas festivities have compelled the party to call off the demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOriginally we intended to have the demonstration on 10th December 2014 but because of the Christmas festivities and other related matters we have postponed it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the party will hold the demonstration after Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>The demonstration which was initially scheduled to take place on December 10, 2014 \u00a0would have been the second time the party would have led a protest in the region in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2014,<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/06\/10\/hundreds-march-in-kumasi-against-economic-hardship\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong> hundreds of Ghanaians in Kumasi<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, led by the Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus, marched through the streets of the city in a\u00a0demonstration, dubbed \u201cYa y3 den?\u201d to register the party\u2019s\u00a0displeasure\u00a0over what they\u00a0describe as\u00a0unbearable hardship in the region.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ashanti Regional leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called off a planned demonstration which was scheduled for Wednesday.
