{"id":71949,"date":"2014-12-06T15:51:30","date_gmt":"2014-12-06T15:51:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=71949"},"modified":"2014-12-06T15:51:49","modified_gmt":"2014-12-06T15:51:49","slug":"unemployed-dad-auctions-ebay-raise-cash-christmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=71949","title":{"rendered":"Unemployed dad auctions himself on eBay to raise cash for Christmas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An unemployed dad-of-two auctioned himself on eBay to earn some money for Christmas&#8230;but was bought &#8211; for just \u00a310.50.<\/p>\n<p>Dave Robinson, 36, took to the online auction house in a bid to earn some cash to buy Christmas presents for his two girls, aged one and 11.<\/p>\n<p>Dave, from Tonteg, Pontypridd, has applied for more than 1,000 jobs since becoming unemployed three months ago &#8211; but only received two replies.<\/p>\n<p>He said desperate times led to desperate measures and took to the online auction house &#8211; posting a listing under the title: &#8216;Somebody Please Take Pity and Give Me a Job.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>But he was left disappointed by how little he raised, Wales Online reports.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;The listing proved quite popular with over 600 page views but the final sale price was \u00a310.50.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was disappointed, after all, who wants to work a week for a mere \u00a310.50?<\/p>\n<figure class=\"inline-image clearfix \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"captify\" title=\"eBay: He said 'desperate times' drove him to auction himself off\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.mirror.co.uk\/incoming\/article4757224.ece\/alternates\/s615\/Dave-Robinson.png\" alt=\"Dave Robinson, 36, from Tonteg, Pontypridd, became unemployed three months ago and, despite applying for more than 1,000 jobs, only received two replies\" width=\"615\" height=\"409\" \/><figcaption>eBay: He said &#8216;desperate times&#8217; drove him to auction himself off<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;I thought I may at least get an offer of \u00a3100, it just reinforces my belief that I&#8217;m the world&#8217;s most unemployable man. True to my word I agreed to the deal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dave, who has held jobs from management level to cleaning, has completed the set task competently and professionally.<\/p>\n<p>He was employed to help edit and act in a new online time-travelling comedy webseries called Penarth.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;The winning bidder was an independent filmmaker called Fritz O&#8217;Skennick from Cardiff who saw my online videos, acting and editing skills and wanted to utilise them in his new comedy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have done a bit of acting, filming and editing for him and I believe he is more than happy with his purchase.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I will be featured in episode eight airing in a few weeks&#8217; time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;His self-funded project meant he relies mainly on volunteers and aspiring actors and he said he bid a maximum of \u00a320 not expecting to win.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dave said he got the initial idea to auction himself online after selling some items online.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"inline-image clearfix \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"captify\" title=\"Money: Dave was bought for just \u00a310.50 on eBay\" src=\"http:\/\/i3.mirror.co.uk\/incoming\/article4757234.ece\/alternates\/s615\/Ten-pound-fifty-main.jpg\" alt=\"Ten-pound-fifty-main\" width=\"615\" height=\"409\" \/><figcaption>Money: Dave was bought for just \u00a310.50 on eBay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Since losing his job as a warehouse worker in August, Dave has been surviving on what little savings he had put aside and has gradually sold off his beloved Transformers collection that began when he was a young boy.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;Now my savings have depleted and my collection is merely a memory.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Christmas is looming and I have a young family with no means to make their wishes come true this year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dave said every effort he has made to secure employment has been unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Each morning I log into the Government&#8217;s job search website and apply for all the jobs within my skill range within my area,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most of them link you to another independent job website which you have to sign up to in order to apply.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All of a sudden my email is getting bombarded by different job companies telling me what great jobs they have for me to apply for, but it&#8217;s so disheartening when you get nothing back.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The replies I had said the same. &#8216;I&#8217;m sorry to say you have not been successful on this occasion but we wish you all the best&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At least they took the time to reply.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The auction ended on Tuesday, after five bids were placed.<\/p>\n<p>Dave has decided to re-list himself on eBay.<\/p>\n<p>This time he is hoping to make \u00a3100.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: Mirror.co.uk<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An unemployed dad-of-two auctioned himself on eBay to earn some money for Christmas&#8230;but was bought &#8211; for just \u00a310.50.
