{"id":7084,"date":"2014-03-19T03:30:45","date_gmt":"2014-03-19T03:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=7084"},"modified":"2014-03-18T19:51:51","modified_gmt":"2014-03-18T19:51:51","slug":"its-not-our-duty-to-resolve-power-crisis-purc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=7084","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s not our duty to resolve power crisis &#8211; PURC"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_7095\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7095\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/nana_yaa_jantuah.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7095\" alt=\"Nana Yaa Jantuah\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/nana_yaa_jantuah.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"284\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7095\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nana Yaa Jantuah<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission<span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\"> (<\/span>PURC<span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">) says there is nothing it can do about the current power crisis consumers are experiencing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Director of Public Affairs and External Relations at the PURC, <em><strong>Nana Yaa Jantuah<\/strong> <\/em>said the current power crisis &#8221;is not an issue of quality of service&#8221;, therefore it is not within the remit of the PURC.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;The situation at hand is about inadequate gas coming from the West Africa Gas Pipeline; the issue at stake right now is not an issue of quality of service, it is an issue where the gas is not available and there are some challenges in the generation of electricity,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>But responding to calls from the general public to the PURC to make a statement on the situation at hand, Ms. <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"d17ea828-00c0-4cf0-9156-7165ba0411f6\">Jantuah<\/span> said what the country is \u00a0experiencing now is an issue of inadequate of gas from <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"8ebe71ef-b508-4f5a-89a0-23ddfa704486\">WAPCo<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>She, however, said the PURC upon its checks is convinced that the reasons given by the power providers are being truthful.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;Ever since this issue started, we have done our checks and we are convinced it is what is happening,&#8221; she stated.<\/p>\n<p>According to her the PURC will ensure that within the challenges, the power providers adhere to the schedule they are going to put in place. She also advised consumers to help by conservimg electricity.<\/p>\n<p>Ghanaians are enduring erratic power supply again after electricity consumers contended with a year-long load management in 2013. Currently, there is a shortage in the supply of gas from Nigeria to power thermal plants in Takoradi to generate power to complement what is produced from the Akosombo Hydroelectric Dam.<\/p>\n<p>Officials of the Volta River Authority, (VRA) Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) -Producers, Transmitters and Distributors in the power sector respectively -formally announced a \u201ctemporary load management\u201d exercise beginning Monday, March 17, due to generation challenges.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Evans Effah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) says there is nothing it can do about the current power crisis consumers are experiencing.
