The University of Ghana Alumni Association is asking the general public and politicians \u00a0cease debating the University’s decision to close some of its roads to the public.<\/p>\n

The authorities of the university is currently implementing<\/span> a policy where vehicles without a UG sticker have<\/span> to use the Okponglo intersection entrance only while other alternative routes into the school have been blocked.<\/p>\n

The general public have expressed their outrage towards the school authorities with some calling for the dismissal of the Vice Chancellor (VC).<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, some Legislators are urging the Education Ministry to bring back into Parliament, the University of Ghana Act for possible amendment because according to them, the Act gives the school authorities too much powers<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of the Association, Paa Kwesi Yankey stated that the ongoing debate about the new directive is pitching government against the university authorities which is unnecessary.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo we want what is good or what? Why should we be bickering about this? When something like this happens, then people pitch the university against the government. Who can fight government<\/span>?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

He disclosed that parents of students at the University Primary School (UPS) were individually informed two weeks ago on the new directive.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose parents; all of them were handed individually<\/span>, letters from the headmistress two weeks ago that this was going to happen that they should go and make sure they have stickers,\u201d Mr. Yankey said.<\/p>\n

He therefore blamed the parents for refusing to cooperate with school authorities for the smooth implementation of the new directive.<\/p>\n

An emotional Mr. Yankey lamented over the turn of events saying, \u201cwhy do we do this to ourselves? We want the best for the future of your child and my grandchildren. You think the university wants to do things that will be detrimental to everybody and flout what government wants? Who can fight government<\/span>? Nobody!\u201d<\/p>\n
