The President of Volta Regional House of Chiefs and the Paramount chief of Asogli Traditional Area, Torgbui Afede XIV is calling for a ceasefire between the people of the Alavanyo and Nkonya traditional areas.<\/p>\n
Torgbui Afede XIV made the call when he addressed a gathering at this year\u2019s Godigbeza festival of the people of Aflao.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”jQ9b5McrNwmhHDqETDpNUM7tp0LGpOii”]Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, the Paramount Chief said “there is a need for any community that desires accelerated development to embrace peace.”<\/p>\n The Chief expressed worry over the extent to which the protracted conflict between the two towns has affected women and children in the two communities.<\/p>\n \u201c90 plus year old conflict, never seen an end. Its about time we appreciate that as people who are on your earth today, we owe a duty to the unborn to leave for them a land of peace and we call on our brothers and sisters of Alavanyo Nkonya to embrace the peace.I want to assure all and sundry that we will do all that we can to ensure that all of our brothers and sisters uphold peace and desire to live in peace.”<\/p>\n Meanwhile the Volta Regional Police Command has downplayed speculations that the incident is as a result of a protracted conflict between the Nkonya and Alavanyo communities.<\/p>\n Police say they are issuing a warning to forestall unnecessary escalation of the conflict in the area.<\/p>\n
