Hammond says the current energy crisis the country is experiencing has nothing to do with the supply of gas from the West African Gas Pipeline, but rather it is because the government has no money to buy crude.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe issue about the shortage of power supply is not so much with West African Gas Pipeline; essentially it is not the issue,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong> on Monday, the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa in the Ashanti Region said anybody blaming <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"ea9eeddd-9685-42e9-bb4d-bc3a0bf5b447\">WAPCo<\/span> is trying to \u201choodwink the good people of Ghana\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>According to him the current power situation is simply because there is no money to buy crude to power the thermal plant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of the plant that we have in the country, except for the sole exception of the Sunon Asogli plant that depends on gas, the rest are all <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"a646cd4d-cde3-42b0-9aed-319f957dcdea\">convertible<\/span> from gas to crude; so it&#8217;s not\u00a0 so much the fact that we do not have gas from the West African Gas Pipeline that is creating the problem, it is simply because we do not have the money to buy crude to power the thermal plants that we have,\u2019\u2019 he stated.<\/p>\n<p>He also noted that most of the generating plants have broken down. \u201cThe generating capacity of the country is completely collapsed, so don\u2019t let anybody blame the WAPCo\u2026\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019We do not have the 132megawatts plant (T3 at Tarkoradi) it has also broken down,\u2019\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers across the country have been enduring a load-management program which the Volta River Authority blames on power generation challenges.<\/p>\n<p>The Energy Ministry on Friday announced that a new schedule load shedding <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"2d182cff-b686-45ae-a5f9-c878ee3781d3\">programme<\/span> will be released on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The President John Mahama has, however, pleaded with Ghanaians to be patient as the government works \u00a0to resolve the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Also the Energy Minister, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has been sent to Nigeria \u00a0to find out why gas from the West Africa Gas Pipeline has been erratic.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Evans Effah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minority spokesperson on Energy, K.T.
