{"id":6825,"date":"2014-03-17T18:28:42","date_gmt":"2014-03-17T18:28:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=6825"},"modified":"2014-03-17T18:56:28","modified_gmt":"2014-03-17T18:56:28","slug":"mttu-to-control-traffic-at-legon-madina-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=6825","title":{"rendered":"Dont expose UG to unneccessary attacks &#8211; Egbert Faibille"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_6168\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6168\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/faibille.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6168\" alt=\"Egbert Faibille\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/faibille.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6168\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Egbert Faibille<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A Legal Practitioner, Egbert Faibille has defended the decision by the University of Ghana to \u00a0prevent members of the general public from using its campus as a thoroughfare by blocking some of its roads.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, Mr. Fabille said \u201cWe should not expose Legon to unnecessary attacks on its integrity when a simple consultative process would have brought peace and understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the section three sub-section 2 of the University of Ghana\u2019s Act 206 \u00a0require persons who are \u00a0not members of the University of Ghana to be precluded by the University from using its facilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFundamentally, if the University of Ghana says it is shutting the door in the face of persons who are not members of the University, the University will not be wrong,\u201dhe said.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"60fcb73c-af3a-4916-b678-c66c994b38e7\">He however<\/span> \u00a0criticized the University for not engaging with major stakeholders before taking its decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Parents Teachers Association (PTA) is also a legitimate body within the University Primary school set up so what also precluded the University from \u00a0meeting the PTA to trash out the problem?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) says it is taking measures to address the traffic \u00a0created \u00a0on the Legon-Madina Road by the closure of some of the access roads through the University of Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Ghana has restricted \u00a0access \u00a0into the campus to the public by opening one \u00a0road into and out of the school.<\/p>\n<p>The new directive according to the school is to reduce the large number of private vehicles \u00a0which use the campus as a through fare to their destinations.<\/p>\n<p>According to the University, it will only allow the commuting public to use the Okponglo entrance into campus while those who wish to use other entry points would have to purchase a UG sticker for GHC 400.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <b>Citi News<\/b>, \u00a0Jonas\u00a0Nyabor\u00a0of\u00a0<em>Radio Universe<\/em>\u00a0said the MTTU had taken note of the concerns of commuters and drivers and is trying to find a lasting solution to the problem.<\/p>\n<p>He also noted that security personnel had been tasked to control the traffic situation.<\/p>\n<p>The University took the decision after it suspended \u00a0the charging of tolls at the its entrances to pay off loans which were acquired to rehabilitate the roads.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Legal Practitioner, Egbert Faibille has defended the decision by the University of Ghana to \u00a0prevent members of the general public from using its campus as a thoroughfare by blocking some of its roads.
