A group calling itself Coalition of Unpaid Nurses will on Tuesday embark on a demonstration in Kumasi over unpaid salaries.<\/p>\n
The nurses insist they have not received their salaries for close to 24 months.<\/p>\n
The group which is made up of over 1,000 nurses say the situation has made life difficult for them.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”u34bkG8uY98gHoVcW7fiqTFntsyoZJvz”]In an interview with Citi News<\/strong>, the National Coordinator for the group, Jefferson Asare-Danquah explained that since being employed by the government, they have not been paid.<\/p>\n \u201cGovernment has employed us as nurses and we\u2019ve been working for over 20 months and the least of us have been working for six months now without salary,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n According to him, all efforts to get the matter resolved has yielded no positive results; hence, their decision to demonstrate against the government.<\/p>\n The nurses after the demonstration will present a petition to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong.<\/p>\n Asare-Danquah stated that the nurses \u201cwant him [Samuel Sarpong] to come out and receive our petition because we are not going to give the petition to any director. We are serious about what we are doing.\u201d<\/p>\n Tuesday\u2019s demonstration is also expected to be replicated in the other nine regions at a later date.<\/p>\n \u201cFrom the Ashanti Region, we will move to the Volta Region and from there, we will move to the Northern Region,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Asare-Danquah served notice to government that the demonstration \u201cis happening live in Kumasi. So come Tuesday, we are putting every instrument aside and we will demonstrate.\u201d<\/p>\n He added that the Ashanti Regional Police Commander has been notified over the demonstration \u201cand he has given us the go ahead to do the demonstration.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
