President John Dramani Mahama\u2019s nominee for the vacant West Mamprusi District Chief Executive position, Alhaji Alidu Iddrisu Zakariah was on Wednesday rejected by the Assembly Members.<\/p>\n
As a former Member of Parliament for the Walewale constituency in the Northern Region for two consecutive terms, only 11 Assembly Members sympathized with him whereas 30 assembly members disapproved of his nomination.<\/p>\n
Not even the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna\u2019s speech ahead of the confirmation exercise inspired the Assembly Members to approve the DCE nominee.<\/p>\n

They also revealed that the Upper East Regional Minister, James Zugah Tiigah and the Member of Parliament for Savelugu Constituency, Hajia Mary Boforo all failed in their attempt to convince the Assembly Members to confirm Alhaji Alidu Iddrisu Zakariah.<\/p>\n
One of the Assembly Members on grounds of anonymity told Citi News<\/strong> that about 10 District Chief Executives in the Northern Region abandoned their duties and stormed the West Mamprusi District Assembly in solidarity.<\/p>\n The New Patriotic Party (NPP), Walewale constituency Secretary, Simon Ali described the outcome as \u201cUnprecedented\u201d in the area\u2019s political history.<\/p>\n According to him, the assembly members\u2019 action meant residents there were tired of government\u2019s failed promises.<\/p>\n He cited the construction of the Walewale-Nalerigu road as one of the NDC\u2019s unfulfilled campaign promises.<\/p>\n One of the Walewale constituency NDC executives (name withheld) said the outcome was a clear indication of deep cracks in the party\u2019s top hierarchy.<\/p>\n He said there was a disconnect between the party grassroot supporters and the leadership.
