This is not enshrined anywhere in the Kenyan Constitution but is a push by men rights activist, Nderitu Njoka, to mark International Men\u2019s Liberation Day.<\/p>\n
According to Njoka,\u201cOn that day, men should neither have sex nor eat food. They are supposed to fast and pray and only wave at women using their left hand to signify their difference with women.\u201d<\/p>\n
Njoka told The Nairobian that, \u201cThe day is basically meant to demonstrate the rise of gender violence against men, including increase of drug and alcohol abuse among women.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, it is a demonstration against the government for setting aside up to Sh2 billion for sanitary towels and not half of that for circumcision of men,\u201d Njoka added.<\/p>\n
The day was launched by Maendeleo Ya Wanaume aka Global Men Empowerment Network (GEM) at Jeevanjee Gardens last year.
\nTo succeed in marking the day, Njoka says men should dialogue with their spouses for peaceful families. Male religious leaders should also embrace this initiative by not appointing women as church leaders.<\/p>\n
He added that, \u201cMen, according to the Koran and the Bible, are the heads of families, but today, they have been relegated to be necks, while women are taking over the world.\u201d
\nCity lawyer Alice Maina says that, \u201cThe day is not necessary at all. Denying your partner her conjugal rights is wrong.\u201d Kevin Kiprono, an architect and supporter of MYW says, \u201cActually, we must have our own day to reflect on how women have turned against men. This day should have been enshrined in our Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n
Former Maendeleo ya Wanawake Chair Rukia Subow told The Nairobian that, \u201cI can\u2019t remember anything like that during my regime and I don\u2019t have much to comment on it because no one knows about the day.\u201d<\/p>\n
