{"id":63219,"date":"2014-11-09T05:30:08","date_gmt":"2014-11-09T05:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=63219"},"modified":"2014-11-08T19:43:00","modified_gmt":"2014-11-08T19:43:00","slug":"parliaments-importation-of-furniture-from-italy-senseless-casley-hayford","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=63219","title":{"rendered":"Parliament&#8217;s importation of furniture from Italy \u2018senseless\u2019 \u2013 Casley Hayford"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Financial Analyst, Sydney Casley Hayford has described as senseless, government\u2019s decision to import chairs from Italy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hear they are importing furniture from Italy as well to be able to do job 600, we\u2019ll we will find a way of stopping it because it doesn\u2019t make any sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parliament has begun <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/11\/07\/parliament-imports-more-furniture-from-italy\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>importing more chairs from Italy<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>just days after Parliamentarians received heavy criticism for importing furniture from China.<\/p>\n<p>The Speaker of Parliament, in his opening remarks last Tuesday revealed that \u201csome Members of Leadership and MPs as well as Members of the Technical Team travelled to Italy to inspect and confirm various facilities and units of furniture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;HEnXM0dviQOptgcwvbr56gw85wh0r5vr&#8221;]Though<span style=\"color: #666699;\"> <strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/11\/05\/local-furniture-producers-angry-with-parliament\/\" target=\"_blank\">Local furniture companies <\/a><\/strong><\/span>have criticized government for ignoring them to import what they describe as\u00a0 \u201cinferior\u201d chairs and tables from China.<\/p>\n<p>The leadership of Parliament has\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/11\/05\/furniture-was-imported-from-china-to-save-time-parliament\/\">explained that it imported furniture<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>from China because it was impossible for a local company to produce the over 300 furniture pieces within the limited time.<\/p>\n<p>But speaking on Citi FM&#8217;s News Analysis Programme,<em><strong> The Big Issue<\/strong><\/em>, the Financial Analyst described Parliament\u2019s justification as insincere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we are seeing is the insincerity of Parliament to the people of this country. It is insincerity on Parliament\u2019s behalf to even come and justify what they have done&#8230;,\u201d Sydney Casley Hayford maintained.<\/p>\n<p>He believes Parliament could have consulted local producers to manufacture the furniture to save the country from incurring losses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCould we have done it here in Ghana locally? We could have done it&#8230; Now I can tell you off the top of my head, I can easily name you some furniture companies in the country who could have done this without a problem. If you had given a contract like this to Ekuaba, it has enough plants to be able to cut and fix three hundred chairs without a problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the same platform, a lecturer at Ashesi University, Lloyd Amoah said &#8220;Parliament has made a gross mistake&#8221; by resorting to foreign partners for the production of chairs for Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In an economy that is &#8230;stagnating,&#8230; the choice of China is a huge mistake.
