{"id":63157,"date":"2014-11-08T18:00:55","date_gmt":"2014-11-08T18:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=63157"},"modified":"2014-11-08T16:11:53","modified_gmt":"2014-11-08T16:11:53","slug":"drag-govt-to-parliament-over-pension-funds-mp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=63157","title":{"rendered":"Drag Ministers to Parliament over pension funds \u2013 MP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Obuasi West Member of Parliament, Kwaku Kwarteng has asked Parliament to drag the Ministers of Finance and Employment before it over the refusal to release \u00a0the tier two pension funds of public sector workers.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve labour groups<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/21\/labour-confirms-strike-on-wednesday\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong> embarked on an indefinite strike<\/strong><\/span><\/a> on Wednesday, October 22 to protest the non-payment of their pension funds into a privately managed account.<\/p>\n<p>Though the strike has<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/11\/04\/labour-calls-off-strike-with-conditions\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong> been called off<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>after a series of negotiation between the two parties, the Obuasi legsilator is insisting the ministers to explain why they failed to pay those funds.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;pCkcUFmFpGl0kULKuE1vwknfPDG2UgBc&#8221;]The Chief Executive Officer of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), Laud Senanu earlier disclosed that funds accrued on the tier two pension funds for <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/31\/workers-pension-funds-at-bog-yields-ghc1-6-billion-npra\/\" target=\"_blank\">aggrieved workers yielded Ghc1.6 billion.<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to him, the amount comprises contributions from both public and private sector workers.<\/p>\n<p>Though government insists it has not <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/24\/we-havent-chopped-your-pension-funds-haruna-iddrisu\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>spent monies deducted from the salaries<\/strong> <\/a><\/span>of workers for their tier two pension scheme as alleged by some critics.<\/p>\n<p>The Member of Parliament\u2019s Finance Committee emphasized the need for government to render accounts on the pension funds to the house.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is against the law, it is against sub-section three of the NPRA. Parliament ought to invite the Minister to explain the default. The NPRA says it is investing these funds into Treasury bills. Now if the monies have not been released it means workers will not get the benefit of the returns on these investments.
