{"id":62861,"date":"2014-11-07T08:02:22","date_gmt":"2014-11-07T08:02:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=62861"},"modified":"2014-11-07T08:03:53","modified_gmt":"2014-11-07T08:03:53","slug":"rocky-dawuni-releases-african-thriller-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=62861","title":{"rendered":"Rocky Dawuni releases \u2018African Thriller\u2019 video"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Cumbancha recording artist Rocky Dawuni has released his new music video for the hit single \u201cAfrican Thriller\u201d in partnership with Entertainment Weekly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8220;African Thriller&#8221; is the first single from the African star Rocky Dawuni&#8217;s new album &#8220;Branches of the Same Tree,&#8221; which will be released in March 2015 on Cumbancha.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The timing of the video launch occurred just a few days after the 40th anniversary of the legendary \u201cRumble in the Jungle\u201d boxing match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman, and the video draws inspiration from that momentous event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">At a time when the news about Africa is dominated by the Ebola crisis, \u201cAfrican Thriller\u201d offers a positive message celebrating African strength, unity and indomitable spirit.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/x_5myZ2PO0k\" width=\"630\" height=\"354\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Shot in Los Angeles, the highly polished music video, directed by Glen Wilson, and choreographed by Kara Mack, offers an explosion of West African inspired dance moves, rich colors, and a celebratory atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Wilson, who directed Dawuni&#8217;s earlier &#8220;African Reggae Fever&#8221; video, was inspired by one of his favorite documentaries, <em><strong>When We Were Kings<\/strong><\/em>, which documented the famous Ali\/Foreman &#8220;Rumble in the Jungle&#8221; bout that took place in Kinshasha, Zaire (now Democratic Republic of the Congo) on October 30th, 1974. The video also references Afro Funke&#8217;, Rocky&#8217;s world renowned cross cultural dance club in Los Angeles, and offers visual tributes to Nigerian Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">According to Rocky Dawuni, &#8220;&#8216;African Thriller&#8217; is a persona, a concept and a vision of what contemporary beauty and excitement will emerge from the confrontation and collision of cultures.
