The Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur on Tuesday met captains of Indian Industry and assured them that Ghana welcomed investors whose\u00a0operations would add value to the country’s primary commodities.<\/p>\n
He said the production of value added commodities and products for exports\u00a0would augment Ghana’s exports earnings as well as enable investors to\u00a0expand their capacities to offer more employment opportunities for the\u00a0people.<\/p>\n
Addressing Chief Executive Officers (CEO’s) of Indian manufacturing and\u00a0commercial companies at the headquarters of the Confederation of Indian\u00a0Industry (CII) at New Delhi, Mr. Amissah-Arthur said Ghana had taken a bold\u00a0and decisive decision to diversify its economy by adding value to products\u00a0for the local and external markets.<\/p>\n
Accompanied by the Minister of State responsible for Private Sector\u00a0Development, Mr, Rashid Pelpuo and Ghana High Commissioner to India, Mr.\u00a0Sam Pee Yalley, the Vice- President said it was becoming increasingly\u00a0dangerous for the country to rely solely on the export of materials in\u00a0their raw form.<\/p>\n
He said considering the manipulation of prices of raw materials on the\u00a0world market resulting in dwindled receipts for the country and throwing\u00a0overboard projected government budgets, it had become imperative to\u00a0diversify the country’s economy to meet the rising expectations of the\u00a0masses.<\/p>\n
Mr. Amissah-Arthur drew the attention of the gathering to the political\u00a0stability which Ghana had enjoyed over the past 22 years, a veritable\u00a0factor, which he said, which made it a preferred destination for Indian\u00a0investment in the West African sub-region.<\/p>\n
“Ghana has since 1992 has elected its various governments’ through the\u00a0ballot box and the masses of the people had come to realize that exercising\u00a0their franchise every four years to elect their leaders was the best form\u00a0of governance,” he said.<\/p>\n
Commenting on other factors of production considered by investors before\u00a0committing their capital to the various sectors of the economy, the
\nVice-President said the country was diversifying its energy mix to provide\u00a0uninterrupted electricity for industry and commerce.<\/p>\n
He added thatalthough the country was faced with financial challenges,\u00a0nevertheless it was doing its best to mobilize resources to undertake the
\nrehabilitation and expansion of existing road, rail and air network in the\u00a0country.<\/p>\n
The Vice-President also welcomed investment in the infrastructural sector,\u00a0which he said, required $1.5 billion annually for the next decade to fix\u00a0the sector to facilitate the progress and development of the country.<\/p>\n
Mr. Amissah-Arthur told the gathering that the country abounded in fertile\u00a0lands, massive water bodies and untapped and abundant mineral resources\u00a0stressing that Indian businessmen could invest in the agricultural, mining\u00a0and fishing sectors and expected maximum returns on their investment.<\/p>\n
The Vice-President also commented on the oil and gas industry, adding that\u00a0the sector offered ample opportunities for investors who could also invest\u00a0in its ancillary concerns such as fertilizer manufacturing.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Chairman of the CII Mr. Sanjay Kirloskar said Indian businessmen\u00a0acknowledged the economic potentials in Ghana and said members would\u00a0continue to liaise with the appropriate authorities in the country to\u00a0explore investment opportunities.<\/p>\n
