The National Chairman of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Dr. Josiah Aryeh has told Citi News<\/strong>\u00a0that former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings will contest on the party\u2019s ticket in the 2016 election.<\/p>\n

Dr. Josiah Aryeh said the country\u2019s current economic challenges\u00a0require a strong leader who can deal with the situation, a quality Nana Konadu possesses.<\/p>\n

The NDP was formed out of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the lead up to the 2012 general elections by the wife of former President John Rawlings.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”ukYrPIQLTFE8aq6X6kIe5fnUYHGznMFL”]The NDP\u2019s flagbearer in 2012, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings was however disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) due to anomalies in the party\u2019s forms.<\/p>\n

But Dr. Aryee told Citi News<\/strong>, he is optimistic about the chances of Nana Konadu this time round.<\/p>\n

\u201cNana Konadu will be running for the presidency of this country. I have been a keen observer to the policy of this country; I\u2019ve seen the way in which people have either \u00a0adroitly or maladroitly managed this country.\u00a0 So we don\u2019t want to be out there and see things happen, be silent observers and witness whatever but we think that we must show our faces, we are in competitive politics as well,\u201dhe emphasised.<\/p>\n

In a related development, Dr. Aryeh said the NDP is prepared to work with any political party\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/a> seeking to improve the welfare of the general public.<\/p>\n

He made the comments when he led the party’s delegation to congratulate the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo Addo on Monday.<\/p>\n

Mr. Aryeh asked Ghanaians not to interpret the NDP\u2019s visit to the largest opposition party in the country to mean that it is out of business.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are still in business and we want to work with anybody and we\u2019ve tried to approach others,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
