Compaore &#8211; Amissah-Arthur"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ousted Burkina Faso President, Blaise Compaore, would have been welcomed in Ghana had he chosen to flee to the country, according to Vice-President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Amissah- Arthur stated that \u00a0Blaise Compaore \u201cis an African leader&#8221; and should be accorded all the respect due him.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60902\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60902\" style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/blaiseafp_2399653c.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60902 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/blaiseafp_2399653c.jpg\" alt=\"blaiseafp_2399653c\" width=\"460\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/blaiseafp_2399653c.jpg 460w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/blaiseafp_2399653c-300x187.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60902\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Blaise Compaore<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;UQKJLnPm7c80INdgkdmoORZ2TBSjLaUz&#8221;]\u201c[Blaise Compaore] is an African leader and he has served for a long time, he is a member of ECOWAS and if he wants to come here, if the government of Ghana feels that it is a friendly act to the people of Burkina Faso to help them resolve their internal problems, we will be very amenable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Blaise Compaore <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/31\/blaise-compaore-steps-down\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>stepped down as president<\/strong><\/span><\/a> of Burkina Faso after protests against a proposed amendment of the constitution by the Parliament, that would have extended the president\u2019s stay in power, intensified .<\/p>\n<p>Compaore had earlier stated that he <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/31\/campaore-stays-in-power-calls-off-state-of-emergency\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>would not resign<\/strong><\/span><\/a> from his position, leading to more protests in the capital Ougadougou.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_61385\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-61385\" style=\"width: 624px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/78693919_024556895-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-61385\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/78693919_024556895-1.jpg\" alt=\" A house belonging to the ousted president's brother was ransacked\" width=\"624\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/78693919_024556895-1.jpg 624w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/78693919_024556895-1-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-61385\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><br \/>A house belonging to the ousted president&#8217;s brother was ransacked<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Earlier reports indicated that a heavily armed convoy believed to be carrying Mr Compaore was travelling towards the southern town of Po, leading to suggestions that the deposed leader could be heading to Ghana.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/IMG-20141030-WA00191.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-61384 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/IMG-20141030-WA00191.jpg\" alt=\"IMG-20141030-WA00191\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/IMG-20141030-WA00191.jpg 600w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/IMG-20141030-WA00191-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The news sparked debate among political analysts in the country who were against granting asylum to the leader.<\/p>\n<p>The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt, described\u00a0Campaore as <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/11\/01\/dont-host-dangerous-compaore-kwesi-pratt\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>a \u201cdangerous leader\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/a> who has a history of fomenting trouble in some West African countries.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister for Interior \u00a0Mark Woyogo disclosed to <strong>Citi News\u00a0<\/strong>Burkina Faso has<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> closed its border to Ghana<\/span><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>but denied that it was <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/11\/01\/compaore-didnt-cause-ghana-burkina-border-closure-woyongo\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>to prevent the former Burkina Faso leader from entering Ghana<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, Mr. Amissah-Arthur, rejected the claims that Mr. Compaore was in the country, saying: &#8220;The distance between Po and the Ghana border is very short. If you [called] somebody that he was there, within the time [of the call], he would be in Ghana.
