{"id":61147,"date":"2014-11-01T06:50:21","date_gmt":"2014-11-01T06:50:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=61147"},"modified":"2014-11-01T06:50:21","modified_gmt":"2014-11-01T06:50:21","slug":"dont-host-dangerous-compaore-kwesi-pratt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=61147","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t host &#8216;dirty and dangerous&#8217; Compaore &#8211; Kwesi Pratt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ghana has been warned against accepting to host embattled former President of Burkina Faso Blaise Compaore, after reports from the international media claimed his convoy was seen heading to Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/31\/blaise-compaore-steps-down\/\" target=\"_blank\">Blaise Campaore<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0stepped down after massive protests against his attempt to \u00a0stay in power for 5 more years, escalated.<\/p>\n<p>Interior minister Mark Woyongo has hinted that Ghana will not turn away Mr. Campaore if he calls on Ghana to host him saying &#8220;it is the accepted practice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;XqJM0aV3FZSfTDh2h4RPU2hDJ3PHEuVc&#8221;]But the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt\u00a0who is also a Pan-Africanist, has described\u00a0Campaore as a &#8220;dangerous leader&#8221; who has a history of fomenting trouble in some West African countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;I would insist that Blaise Compaore should not be given asylum in Ghana at all, he&#8217;s done many dirty and dangerous things across Africa. He was the brain behind the civil war in Sierra Leone, Liberia and he was behind the organization of dissident forces to overthrow the Gbagbo government in Ivory Coast. You don&#8217;t want to have such a person on your territory because he is a danger to everybody in West Africa and a tool of French imperialism,&#8221; he claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Dr Yao Gebe, International Relations analyst is also against Ghana hosting Mr. Compaore.<\/p>\n<p>He told <strong>Citi News<\/strong> that, \u201cwe shouldn\u2019t be seen as allowing a dissident president to come and reside in our country, such a move will create problem between Ghana and the incoming Burkinabe government. we need to be very careful. Ghana as a country can decide to turn down any request of such nature from the Compaore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gebe backed the massive protests in Burkina Faso that forced Compaore out saying;\u201cIt will serve as a big lesson for the rest of African leaders who are thinking of doing likewise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Burkina.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-60816\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Burkina.jpg\" alt=\"Burkina\" width=\"731\" height=\"408\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Burkina.jpg 731w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Burkina-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 731px) 100vw, 731px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kwesi Pratt\u00a0called on Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to support Burkina Faso to recover from the trauma caused by the unrest in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said, \u201cWhat ECOWAS has to do is to support Burkina Faso, support the trade unions, the civil societies, support the working people organizations in Burkina Faso to carve for themselves the system of government that they are comfortable with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/blaiseafp_2399653c.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-60902\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/blaiseafp_2399653c.jpg\" alt=\"blaiseafp_2399653c\" width=\"460\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/blaiseafp_2399653c.jpg 460w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/blaiseafp_2399653c-300x187.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">ECOWAS during the unrest warned that it <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/30\/we-wont-accept-illegal-take-over-in-burkina-faso-mahama\/\" target=\"_blank\">will reject an illegal takeover of power in country<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking on the <strong>Eye Witness News<\/strong> on Friday, the veteran journalist, Kwesi Pratt argued that ECOWAS had no business intervening in the Burkina Faso issue adding that \u201cthe people have spoken and they have spoken loud enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI was very shocked at the earlier statement that ECOWAS issued talking about legality, what is legal and what is not legal. No dictatorial regime can be toppled without a struggle and that cannot be done under the ages of the law. That\u2019s the reality.
