{"id":60933,"date":"2014-10-31T07:00:14","date_gmt":"2014-10-31T07:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=60933"},"modified":"2014-10-31T07:00:14","modified_gmt":"2014-10-31T07:00:14","slug":"real-madrid-and-spain-legend-raul-joins-new-york-cosmos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=60933","title":{"rendered":"Real Madrid and Spain legend Raul joins New York Cosmos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"story_continues_1\" class=\"introduction\" style=\"color: #1c1c1c;\">Former Real Madrid, Schalke and Spain striker Raul has signed a deal to play for US side\u00a0<span class=\"text\">New York Cosmos.<\/span><span class=\"external-link-icon\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #1c1c1c;\">The 37-year-old will join the club on a &#8220;multi-year&#8221; contract at the start of the 2015 season in April and will be technical adviser to the youth academy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #1c1c1c;\">New York Cosmos play in the North American Soccer League (NASL), the division below Major League Soccer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #1c1c1c;\">It reformed in 2013 after the original club, which featured Pele and Franz Beckenbauer, folded in 1985.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #1c1c1c;\">Raul, the all-time Champions League record goalscorer with 71,\u00a0<span class=\"text\">previously retired this summer<\/span><span class=\"external-link-icon\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0after two years in Qatar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #1c1c1c;\">&#8220;Everyone throughout the soccer world knows the Cosmos name and the legacy of the players that played for this team previously,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #1c1c1c;\">&#8220;They helped establish soccer in America and I&#8217;m honoured to follow in their footsteps.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #1c1c1c;\">&#8220;I believe in this club&#8217;s vision and I&#8217;m excited to be a part of it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #1c1c1c;\">Raul won six La Liga titles, four Spanish Super Cups, and three Uefa Champions League titles with Real Madrid in his 16 years at the Bernabeu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #1c1c1c;\">Raul scored 323 goals in 741 matches for Real Madrid, and a record 71 goals in the Champions League.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #1c1c1c;\">He spent\u00a0two years in the Bundesliga with Schalke 04\u00a0after leaving Real Madrid in 2010, a further two years at Qatari side Al Sadd before announcing his retirement in March.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #1c1c1c;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #1c1c1c;\">Source: BBC Sport<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Real Madrid, Schalke and Spain striker Raul has signed a deal to play for US side\u00a0New York Cosmos.\u00a0 The 37-year-old will join the club on a &#8220;multi-year&#8221; contract at the start of the 2015 season in April and will be technical adviser to the youth academy.
