{"id":60366,"date":"2014-10-29T09:44:30","date_gmt":"2014-10-29T09:44:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=60366"},"modified":"2014-10-29T09:52:18","modified_gmt":"2014-10-29T09:52:18","slug":"cocoa-beans-go-waste-over-bad-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=60366","title":{"rendered":"Cocoa beans go waste over bad road"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds of bags of cocoa beans have been left to rot at Mumuni, a cocoa producing community near Sambreboi in the Wassa Amenfi West District of the Western Region, due to the bad nature of their roads.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-60374\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-2.jpg\" alt=\"bad road 2\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-2.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-2-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The beans loaded in tractors and\u00a0transported from the hinterlands usually get stuck \u00a0in the muddy roads, several kilometers away from Sambreboi for days.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-60375\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-6.jpg\" alt=\"bad road 6\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-6.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-6-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A commuter on one of the tractors\u00a0told\u00a0<strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u00a0that \u201cI have my cocoa beans in the bush to be weighed for one week and four days. The rains have not stopped. The road is blocked now and I have been praying to God to come to my side. The DCE and his people only visit us during elections.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-60376\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-8.jpg\" alt=\"bad road 8\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-8.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-8-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He said &#8220;we have complained time and again to them even in view of the fact that Mumuni and other communities around are the largest producers of the cocoa beans in the district which eventually makes those in the assembly rich, they consider our plight as noise in their ears.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-60377\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-7.jpg\" alt=\"bad road 7\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-7.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-7-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Apart from the beans, over 25 communities have also been cut off from the rest of the district. What is worrying is the fact that passengers, many of whom are returning from convention have been forced to stay with friends and relatives pending any relief from elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-60378\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-4.jpg\" alt=\"bad road 4\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-4.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-4-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As at the time <strong>Citi News\u2019s<\/strong> Obrempong Yaw Ampofo got to the scene around 6pm on Sunday October 26, 38 commuters including children from the hinterlands who were on tractors loaded with bags of cocoa were taking refuge under plantain leaves near the stuck tractor and were being subjected to heavy downpour.<\/p>\n<p>Each passenger on the tractor is charged GH 15 for the 17 kilometer distance from Mumuni to Sambreboi while Taxi charges GH 20 each.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, the only available means is the use of motorbikes. Each of the two passengers on it is also charged GH 25.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-60379\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-5.jpg\" alt=\"bad road 5\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-5.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bad-road-5-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One farmer who gave his name as Abeiku threatened that if any government official steps to those communities after they put the road back in shape they will take the law into their own hands. \u2018We are telling them [government officials] through your medium that we will stone them when they step after the blockade is removed\u201d.
