The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Matthew Opoku Prempeh has\u00a0 described President John Mahama\u2019s travels abroad as wasteful.<\/p>\n
He described \u00a0Mahama\u2019s style of leadership a very \u201c aloof, stand-away, don\u2019t touch me, hands off\u201done.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi FM\u2019s<\/strong> Richard Dela Sky in an exclusive interview, the MP said the president’s foreign travels do not yield positive results for the country.<\/p>\n \u201cCertainly when you combine all his travels since 2009 as a Vice President, acting on behalf of his Presidency, President Mills to now, \u00a0we don\u2019t seem to see the benefit that accrued to the nation and especially now that we sorely need a leader to unite us, to sharpen our sense of purpose and focus, to address threatening issues in the sub region, we don\u2019t hear from our President within this country and we see his advisers, his handlers demeaning his office…,\u201dhe stated.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”LdtEfMrCfL2TTVXS9Rp8LrxsCrofHQQj”]\u201cI don\u2019t remember the President staying here for even five days. Certainly he is a President who has stayed outside the shores of this country for a longest time possible.. That is my worry and it finds itself expressions in all spheres of our lives,\u201dhe added.<\/p>\n Opoku Prempeh noted that even though the government has been facing a number of challenges including the non-payment of tier two pension funds among others, the president continues to travel.<\/p>\n \u201cIn the last three months, When you look at the raging battles with the tier two pension funds which we have been speaking about for almost a year, the utmost silence of the trade union leadership, the rampant strikes that started sometime last year, it is not true that this government has only existed for 2 years. It is a government that has existed for six years.”<\/p>\n Many Ghanaians have criticised the Mahama-led administration for its failure to improve the lives of the citizenry and rising spate of corruption in the country.<\/p>\n
