service personnel \u201cwithout any further delay\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A press statement issued by the acting Executive Director, Dr. Michael Kpessa-Whyte \u00a0indicated that \u201cfollowing the on-going investigations at the NSS, processing of allowances for service personnel has been affected as steps are being taken to validate the national database of national service personnel as well as eliminate ghost names.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) recently uncovered\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/03\/rot-at-nss-director-tried-to-influence-case-with-gh%C2%A2100000\/\"><strong>massive corruption<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>at the Secretariat.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;3mXoezrLfhuWI6zgwkDCJNA1YcTh2ZJM&#8221;]According to the investigations, about GHC7.9 million was paid to <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/02\/rot-at-national-service-scheme-about-gh%C2%A27-9m-paid-to-ghost-personnel-in-a-month\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>22,612 non-existent national service persons<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in more than 100 districts in July 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The former Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Alhaji Alhassan Mohammed Imoro was subsequently arrested and has been remanded for the second time.<\/p>\n<p>He was remanded on Monday \u00a0when he made his second appearance before Court.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Whyte \u00a0said \u201cthe ongoing BNI investigation has resulted in the discovery of some institutional challenges in the existing arrangements for effecting payments, which the management is working assiduously to address in order to prevent financial slippages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to him, \u201cpay vouchers for service personnel at duty post have been received at the National Secretariat, and are currently going through the necessary audit validation processes for allowances to be paid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While commending the National Service Personnel for their patience, Mr. Kpessah Whyte also appealed to user organizations benefiting from the services and sacrifices of personnel to provide the necessary social support systems for service personnel to
