{"id":60265,"date":"2014-10-28T16:16:55","date_gmt":"2014-10-28T16:16:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=60265"},"modified":"2014-10-28T16:23:01","modified_gmt":"2014-10-28T16:23:01","slug":"govts-meeting-with-labour-ends-in-deadlock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=60265","title":{"rendered":"Gov&#8217;t&#8217;s meeting with labour ends in deadlock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Government&#8217;s meeting with the striking labour unions on Tuesday over the tier two pension funds has ended in a deadlock.<\/p>\n<p>This was after the striking unions insisted on consulting their lawyers before continuing with the discussions.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting, which lasted for about an hour was therefore postponed to Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>About 12 labour groups embarked on an indefinite strike on <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/21\/labour-confirms-strike-on-wednesday\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\">Wednesday, October 22<\/span> <\/strong><\/a>to protest the non-payment of their tier two pension funds into a privately managed account.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the acting Secretary of the Health Service Workers Union(HSWU), Reynolds Tekorang said the unions have \u00a0to respond to the writ filed by government as demanded by law before they can negotiate.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;pmjDfEdnUOSPiGJKfQeTwFbkYPlj1VHF&#8221;]\u201cAnd we have told them in a plain language that there is a writ of summons hanging on our heads so they must allow us. We didn\u2019t come here to start the negotiation. We showed up for everybody to see that yes, we are ready to negotiate, but before we negotiate there is a writ of summons hanging on our heads and we must see our lawyers so that we clear the issue,\u201d Tenkorang explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lawyers say we have just eight days to respond.Tomorrow we will be meeting them but with a condition. We don\u2019t know how busy our lawyers are, we have to get our lawyers, and then when we finish talking to our lawyers, we will definitely inform government and then we will meet them but it is dependent on when we will finish consulting our lawyers,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile a deputy Minister for Communication, Felix Ofosu Kwakye has said government will continue to dialogue with labour to address their concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe consider today\u2019s meeting as an improvement of the situation.
