The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has described as “good news,” attempts by President John Mahama to reinstate Gabriel Barima, former District Chief Executive (DCE)\u00a0for Ahafo Ano South in the Ashanti region.<\/p>\n

The Local Government Ministry on Monday\u00a0announced that President Mahama has renominated<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>the embattled ‘Tweaa’ DCE to be considered for reinstatement.<\/p>\n

The General Secretary of the NDC, popularly known as General Mosquito in an interview on Eyewitness News<\/strong> said: \u201cI haven\u2019t heard the official information but if there is any news like that, it is good news, any news like that is good.\u201d<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”96ZRDNnNXBTdq7UluNfQndXIi4vDMWDl”]General Mosquito, a very powerful man in the NDC is believed to have forced the hands of the president to recall the DCE.<\/p>\n

A video recording of Mr. Barima rebuking health workers<\/strong><\/span><\/a> at a durbar went viral, drawing criticism from Ghanaians about his arrogance, a situation which instigated his sacking.<\/p>\n

He was later investigated by the government and pardoned but was subsequently sacked after he\u00a0asked for royalties for popularizing the twi word \u2018tweaa,\u2019 a claim which made government believe he was not remorseful after-all.<\/p>\n

General Mosquito, controversially called for Mr. Barima’s reinstatement<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, based on what he said was the party’s own investigations which exonerated the DCE.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Citi News<\/strong>\u00a0in March 2014, Mr. Asiedu Nketia argued that, “based on the investigations conducted by the party, the NEC has come to the inescapable conclusion that the decision, if left to stand, will not only\u00a0 amount to serious injustice to the DCE but will seek to dampen the enthusiasm of other DCEs in their attempt to deal with indiscipline and corruption in their various areas of jurisdiction. We strongly believe that if the President has had the full and accurate brief about the following facts of the case, his decision on the matter would have been different.\u201d<\/p>\n

A group of chiefs from the Ahafo Ano South District<\/strong><\/span><\/a> supported General Mosquito’s call and denied claims by Deputy NDC General Secretary, Kofi Adams that Johnson Asiedu Nketia\u2019s call for the president to re-instate the sacked Tweea DCE was unilateral.<\/p>\n

Kofi Adams said Mr. Asiedu Nketia did not consult any of the national executives before issuing a statement pleading with the president to re-instate Mr. Gabriel Barimah.<\/p>\n
