The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has scrapped the guidelines for its regional elections paving the way for the elections to proceed.<\/p>\n

The General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia confirmed this to Citi News <\/strong>on Monday after a Kumasi High Court \u00a0granted a joint motion filed by the party and the plaintiff, Linus\u00a0Njonolah to discontinue the case.<\/p>\n

Mr. Njonolah had dragged the party and its executives to court<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in September stating\u00a0that they had overstepped their mandate.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”fZmM0JvZii6obebCLV7AmVtbc3qz9NDf”]He alleged that the executives and other members of the party’s hierarchy were using their authority to disqualify<\/strong><\/span><\/a> some party members of the NDC from taking part in the impending regional elections.<\/p>\n

The NDC, per the judge’s initial directive for both parties to settle the case out-of court<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, suspended its regional elections and scrapped a controversial clause in the party\u2019s election guidelines<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Njonolah had earlier stated that\u00a0 he would not settle<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0insisting he wanted more than just that clause out of the election guidelines.<\/p>\n

Following Monday’s development in the court, Njonolah welcomed the party’s decision scrap all the guidelines and reopen nominations for the regional elections.<\/p>\n

Asiedu Nketia told Citi News:\u00a0<\/strong>“We are democrats and we believe in what the court says. We have settled the matter and have opened nominations for the NDC regional elections countrywide with immediate effect, from now till Friday, October 31 when nominations close.”<\/p>\n

On his part, the plaintiff, Linus\u00a0Njonolah also spoke to Citi News<\/strong> after the settlement and stated that he was pleased that an amicable resolution had been found and that he was “happy democracy had won in the end.”<\/p>\n
