{"id":59731,"date":"2014-10-27T05:29:02","date_gmt":"2014-10-27T05:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=59731"},"modified":"2014-10-27T05:23:37","modified_gmt":"2014-10-27T05:23:37","slug":"health-workers-to-escalate-strike-if","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=59731","title":{"rendered":"Health workers to \u2018escalate\u2019 strike if \u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Health Services Workers Union(HSWU) are prepared to withdraw all emergency services at public hospitals to compel government to pay their tier two pension contributions, the acting General Secretary of the Union, Reynolds Tekorang has said.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve labour unions including the HSWU\u00a0are\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/21\/labour-confirms-strike-on-wednesday\/\">on an indefinite strike<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0to protest government\u2019s failure to pay public service workers, their tier two pension funds into a private account.<\/p>\n<p>Even though the strike started last week, the health workers are still attending to emergency cases to mitigate the full impact of the strike.<\/p>\n<p>The decision has forced government to<span style=\"color: #666699;\"> <strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/24\/labour-pushes-govt-to-court-over-pension-funds\/\" target=\"_blank\">resort to the court to\u201dseek interpretation\u201d <\/a><\/strong><\/span>of the Pensions Act.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;aYPCloOCdyUp94Rds2M1Rbo8Py6a2WMn&#8221;]But speaking to <strong>Citi News, <\/strong>Mr. Tenkorang\u00a0\u00a0said the group is unfazed about<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> government\u2019s decision to sue them over their action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201c We are not perturbed at all. I have over 800,000 workers behind me and I am not afraid. We have told the Ministry of Health that if he doesn&#8217;t use his good office to advise the government to give us what we are demanding we will even escalate the strike. We said emergency services should be provided in the hospitals but if our demands are not met, we will ask all our members who are providing services to stop working.<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u00a0Tekorang added that\u00a0the various groups will continue to demand for their pension contributions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are ready to fight to the end until what belongs to us as workers, we receive it. The money is for us and we will not allow government to tell us which bank the monies should be sent to.
