The National Labour Commission may decline jurisdiction on the matter brought before it by government against the striking labour unions.<\/p>\n
According to the\u00a0Executive Secretary of the NLC, Dr Bernice Welbeck, \u00a0the commission may adopt \u00a0that decision if the case before it is the same as the one in court.<\/p>\n
She said; \u201cIf the government or employer has gone to court over the same issue and has also filed a petition at the commission, then the commission will decline jurisdiction because it has to be adjudicated at one forum and not two.\u201d<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”zifuGLjQW4K3i5NJ3anr80w6e3qDpdv0″]12 labour unions in the country\u00a0embarked on an indefinite strike action<\/a><\/strong><\/span> after government failed to transfer their tier two pension contributions into a private account.<\/p>\n Various groups including IMANI Ghana<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>have supported the protest by the 12 labour unions but government has described it as \u201cunlawful\u201d and “unnecessary.”<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Although government has assured that the money has not been misused<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and it is with the Bank of Ghana, it has however refused to disclose the amount involved.<\/p>\n
