{"id":59096,"date":"2014-10-24T11:45:49","date_gmt":"2014-10-24T11:45:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=59096"},"modified":"2014-10-24T11:55:44","modified_gmt":"2014-10-24T11:55:44","slug":"court-approves-rawlings-out-of-court-settlement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=59096","title":{"rendered":"Court approves Rawlings&#8217; out of court settlement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Accra High Court has approved an out of court settlement reached between former President Rawlings and former Ghana High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Professor Kwaku Danso-Boafo.<\/p>\n<p>The former\u00a0president was seeking <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/20\/rawlings-sues-ghanas-ex-high-commissioner-to-uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">an injunction to prevent the\u00a0launching of Professor Danso-Boafo&#8217;s book<\/a><\/strong><\/span>;\u00a0\u201cJJ\u00a0Rawlings and the Democratic Transition in Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former president accused Professor Danso-Boafo of bad faith because according to him, &#8220;Prof. Danso-Boafo had undertaken\u00a0to wait for him (Rawlings) to review the book and correct\u00a0all factual inaccuracies in it but \u201chas breached his\u00a0own solemn undertaking with me and has published it\u00a0with the view to launching it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;dCTNI3S1Krf1prUfbVzGlhwAHFQesxWP&#8221;]The later <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/26\/rawlings-agrees-out-of-court-settlement-with-author\/\" target=\"_blank\">agreed to settle the matter out of court<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, and the agreement has been duly accepted by the Accra High Court.<\/p>\n<p><strong>citifmonline.com<\/strong> has gathered one of the conditions in the agreement is that, Professor Danso-Boafo would have to write a second edition of his book to address some the concerns former President Rawlings raised in the first edition.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the author said the book was not intended to\u00a0and does not bring Jerry Rawlings and his family into disrepute, but was rather authored from an \u201cintellectual\u00a0perspective and fair analysis of historical events\u00a0which occurred during the plaintiff\u2019s (Rawlings\u2019) public\u00a0life from military rule through transition to democracy\u00a0and written in a very objective light.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Danso-Boafo\u2019s affidavit said the author, after\u00a0completing the book, gave Jerry Rawlings a copy to\u00a0proof read but the former president, after keeping the\u00a0copy for well over two years, had not been able to\u00a0point out a single sentence he finds unacceptable in the\u00a0book.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Fred Djabanor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Accra High Court has approved an out of court settlement reached between former President Rawlings and former Ghana High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Professor Kwaku Danso-Boafo.
