The strike declared by various labour unions in the country is yet to be fully implemented across the country.<\/p>\n
A visit to some institutions in Accra indicated that employees at the various institutions are yet to fully comply with their union leader\u2019s directive.<\/p>\n
About 12 labour groups announced their decision to embark on a strike to compel government<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>to pay their tier two pension contributions into a privately managed account.<\/p>\n Though the Minister of Labour and Employment, Haruna Iddrisu described the strike as unlawful,<\/strong><\/span><\/a> the Executive Director of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe believes the strike is justifiable.<\/p>\n In a statement released on Wednesday Franklin Cudjoe stated that the strike was inevitable after \u201cvery little efforts were made\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/a> following appeals to the government to address the concerns of the unions.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”9wlCNbi2AByevwZi2EJIMn6SnKOKxW05″]Citi News\u2019<\/strong> Franklin Badu, visited some institutions in Accra and reported that \u201c the effects of the strike declared by twelve labour unions cannot be felt in some institutions in the capital.\u201d<\/p>\n He stated that at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, doctors, nurses and other medical officials were attending to patients.<\/p>\n \u201cAlthough there were notices of the strike posted on notice boards at the Ministries,most of the Ministries had their staff reporting to work except the Trade and Industry Ministry where some workers had heeded to the call of their leaders to lay down their tools,\u201dhe noted.<\/p>\n Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Abraham Otabil, said employees at the Ministry \u00a0reported to work because they were not privy to the nationwide strike declared by the various labour groups.<\/p>\n \u201cI did not know why this problem happened but perhaps the information did not go down well with them and as I speak myself I got the information just this morning that we were not supposed to be at work but unfortunately for me, we have driven all the way from Adenta to this place and it will be difficult for me to see the situation and return home.\u201d<\/p>\n The situation was not different at the Cocoa Affiars Court and the other courts along the Accra High Street as the employees at the Court reported to work.<\/p>\n An employee who spoke to Citi News<\/strong> said he reported to work because their leadership had not yet instructed them to lay down their tools.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have not heard of any strike and we have not been officially informed. We are working and all of us are at post. Everything is on smoothly.
