{"id":58540,"date":"2014-10-22T10:41:59","date_gmt":"2014-10-22T10:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=58540"},"modified":"2014-10-22T11:07:44","modified_gmt":"2014-10-22T11:07:44","slug":"croatian-boxer-banned-for-life-for-attacking-referee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=58540","title":{"rendered":"Croatian boxer banned for life for attacking referee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Boxer Vido Loncar has been banned for life after attacking a referee during the European Youth Boxing Championships in Zagreb.<\/p>\n<p>Light heavyweight Locar launched an unprovoked attack on the referee following his decision to stop the fight in favour of opponent Algiras Baniulis.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sport.citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/0.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33262 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/sport.citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/0.jpg\" alt=\"0\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Croat floored the referee as he prepared to declare Baniulis the winner and then continued to unleash a barrage of punches while the official was on the floor.<\/p>\n<p>Lithuanian Baniulis fled the ring while Locar only stopped his vicious attack when security staff dragged him through the ropes by his ankles.<\/p>\n<p>The referee is recovering in hospital from what have been described as \u201cserious\u201d but not long-term injuries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sport.citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/boxerweb22s-1-web.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33263 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/sport.citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/boxerweb22s-1-web.jpg\" alt=\"boxerweb22s-1-web\" width=\"970\" height=\"542\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the worst thing that could happen to us,\u201d said Croatian Boxing Federation\u2019s Marko Marovic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a disgrace to Zagreb and Croatia and cause the sport of boxing major damage.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/quZANa_qg5Y\" width=\"640\" height=\"390\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the hard work that we put into organising this championship and raising the image of Croatian boxing has been destroyed in a few seconds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: Sky Sports<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Boxer Vido Loncar has been banned for life after attacking a referee during the European Youth Boxing Championships in Zagreb.
