{"id":58331,"date":"2014-10-21T14:45:53","date_gmt":"2014-10-21T14:45:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=58331"},"modified":"2014-10-21T14:52:31","modified_gmt":"2014-10-21T14:52:31","slug":"stop-complaining-and-act-coalition-to-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=58331","title":{"rendered":"Stop complaining and act \u2013 Coalition to Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Anti Corruption Coalition has told President John Mahama to stop lamenting over government officials found to be involved in\u00a0corrupt practices and take action to punish them.<\/p>\n<p>President Mahama complained about how some accountants in <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/20\/govt-accountants-sabotaging-fight-against-corruption-mahama-2\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>government agencies are frustrating government\u2019s efforts<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>to fight corruption in the public sector, through the implementation of the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are accountants in places who just don\u2019t want to hear about GIFMIS. However much we\u2019ve trained them, they behave like they still don\u2019t understand the system,&#8221; frustrated President Mahama lamented.<\/p>\n<p>But \u00a0the Executive Secretary of the Ghana Anti Corruption Coalition, Linda Ofori Kwafo, said the president should rather initiate processes to fire those corrupt accountants, if he does not have the power to do so directly, instead of complaining about the situation.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;h2PLRYFZSxRmzEec3fJN8mc6u9IkyMv7&#8243;]According to her, \u201cthe best that we [Ghanaians] expect from the President is to get information as to who is actually hindering the process\u201d and dealing with the canker.<\/p>\n<p>GIFMIS is a system introduced by government to ensure timely\u00a0and reliable financial information to central government and decentralized institutions \u00a0in the country.<\/p>\n<p>It was created by government to also ensure the effective \u00a0management of public funds in order to minimize acts of corruption.<\/p>\n<p>The country in 2014 witnessed a number of corruption related cases, including the unlawful payment of over <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/15\/court-remands-former-nss-boss\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>7 million Ghana cedis to over 20,000 non- existent National Service Personnel(NSS)<\/strong><\/span><\/a> though GIFMIS was existent and still operating in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Another case to hit the country involved the Commissioner of Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ),Lauretta Lamptey \u00a0who spent<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>\u00a0<a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/16\/chraj-boss-accused-of-wasting-180000-on-rent\/\" target=\"_blank\">about $200,000 on rent alone.<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Anti Corruption Coalition has told President John Mahama to stop lamenting over government officials found to be involved in\u00a0corrupt practices and take action to punish them.
