{"id":57498,"date":"2014-10-18T06:00:20","date_gmt":"2014-10-18T06:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=57498"},"modified":"2014-10-19T07:42:05","modified_gmt":"2014-10-19T07:42:05","slug":"npp-elects-flagbearer-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=57498","title":{"rendered":"NPP elects flagbearer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After weeks of intensive campaigning, the three candidates vying to lead the\u00a0New Patriotic Party (NPP) &#8211; Nana Akufo-Addo, Alan Kyeremanten and Francis Addai-Nimoh will know their fate today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">over 140,000 party delegates will head to the polls today to\u00a0elect a flagbearer who will lead the party into the 2016 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In all, seven candidates picked up nomination forms to contest the flagbearership position but the number was pruned down to five in a <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/31\/npp-congress-how-delegates-voted\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">Super Delegates Congress<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0as stipulated in the party&#8217;s constitution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;vubezMohVqgBnL6EuzxCMCPunOj6EmGy&#8221;]After the Super Delegates&#8217; Congress on August 31, <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/04\/13\/results-npp-national-delegates-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">the following candidates made it into the shortlisted five<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> \u2013 Nana Akufo-Addo (81.28%), Alan Kyerematen (8.01%), <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/15\/vote-for-me-and-ill-unify-npp-addai-nimo-tells-delegates\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">Francis Addai Nimoh<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> (2.85%), Joe Ghartey (2.85%) and Kofi Osei Ameyaw (1.90).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The remaining two, Stephen Asamoah Boateng and Kofi Konadu Apraku were eliminated from the contest for\u00a0obtaining 1.76 percent and 1.36 percent of the total valid votes cast respectively.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Shortly after, two of the candidates who made into the shortlisted five &#8211; <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/01\/joe-ghartey-gives-up-on-npp-race\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">Joe Ghartey<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/11\/osei-ameyaw-also-drops-out-of-npp-race\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">Kofi Osei Ameyaw<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0bowed out of the race leaving Akufo-Addo, Kyeremanten and Addai-Nimoh.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There were serveral calls for Kyeremanten and Addai-Nimoh to also step down to allow the two-time presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Addo to run unopposed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But the two refused to back down and after weeks of intense campaigning, the three rounded things up on Thursday, October, 16, 2014.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chairman of the NPP, <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/15\/we-must-go-to-congress-united-afoko\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">Paul Afoko has however called for peace<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 within the party before, during and after the congress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin Allotey Akweiteh\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After weeks of intensive campaigning, the three candidates vying to lead the\u00a0New Patriotic Party (NPP) &#8211; Nana Akufo-Addo, Alan Kyeremanten and Francis Addai-Nimoh will know their fate today. over 140,000 party delegates will head to the polls today to\u00a0elect a flagbearer who will lead the party into the 2016 presidential election.
