{"id":56478,"date":"2014-10-15T06:47:56","date_gmt":"2014-10-15T06:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=56478"},"modified":"2014-10-15T10:41:34","modified_gmt":"2014-10-15T10:41:34","slug":"disregard-research-ghana-ready-for-ebola-health-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=56478","title":{"rendered":"Disregard research; Ghana ready for Ebola &#8211; Health Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The government of Ghana has disputed the findings of the Northeastern University in the United States of America (USA) which stated that Ghana will record its first case of Ebola by the end of October 2014.<\/p>\n<p>According to the research, which was undertaken before Senegal, Nigeria and the United States of America (USA) recorded any case of the disease and published on October 6, 2014, Ghana <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/14\/ebola-likely-to-enter-ghana-by-october-31-research\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\">tops the list of countries most at risk<\/span> <\/strong><\/a>of the deadly disease.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;74ULa3s8nscwNMOZBlGzJm3XN7fWR8TA&#8221;]However, The Minister for Health, Dr. Kwaku Agyeman Mensah, while touring the Ebola-preparedness facilities at the Kotoka International Airport, questioned the University\u2019s findings, insisting that they were satisfied with the measures that had been put in place to prevent an outbreak in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know how they came by that date [October 31] or how they did their analysis. But I want to assure you that in Ghana we have Ebola preparedness and a response plan underpinned by a three-pronged strategy; public education, screening and effective case management. The Deputy minister of the sector, Dr Victor Bampoe, speaking on the\u00a0<b>Citi Breakfast Show <\/b>said that the\u00a0government has <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/14\/we-are-ready-for-ebola-dr-bampoe\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>put in place a number of measures<\/strong><\/span><\/a> to tackle any possible outbreak of the disease.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen it comes to getting ready for incident management, the Tema treatment center is up and running, there is still some few modifications that we are continuing to do that will even make it even better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>However, medical practitioners in the country\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/14\/doctors-doubt-ghanas-readiness-for-ebola\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>remain unconvinced<\/strong><\/span><\/a> by the government&#8217;s assurances, with the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) stating that a lot more needs to be done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me say that even as doctors,we feel that the training is inadequate. If you look at Ebola, it is not just doctors, every health worker is at risk. And indeed every Ghanaian is at risk.
