{"id":55199,"date":"2014-10-10T12:30:48","date_gmt":"2014-10-10T12:30:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=55199"},"modified":"2014-10-10T12:30:48","modified_gmt":"2014-10-10T12:30:48","slug":"labone-shs-to-review-dismissal-of-250-students-chass-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=55199","title":{"rendered":"Labone SHS to review dismissal of 250 students &#8211; CHASS President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary School (CHASS), has said not all of the 250 students of Labone Senior High School in Accra who have been cited for poor performance will be sent home.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/09\/250-labone-students-dismissed-for-failing\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>Two hundred and fifty students<\/strong><\/span><\/a> <\/span>of the Labone Senior High School (SHS) have been sacked for their abysmal performance in the end-of-year examination in July, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The students, who had an average of four failures in eight subjects, were sent home when the first term of the 2014\/2015 academic year began.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;X5Iy3d8Ig8q5rppnK1ED7RXMdyw6wqcU&#8221;]Out of the number, 155 of them were second-year students who were expected to progress to Form Three, while 95 were first-year students.<\/p>\n<p>171 students who had an average of three failures in the examination have also been asked to repeat their class.<\/p>\n<p>But speaking on the<strong> Citi Breakfast Show<\/strong>, the President of CHASS, Charles Ofori Agyei\u00a0explained that \u201cit is not a cut and dry thing that all the 250 have been dismissed and are going home\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Agyei further justified the school\u2019s decision to sack students who fail, saying, \u201dthe withdrawal is for their own good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said various Senior High Schools do not take a unilateral decision to withdraw students from their respective schools, adding that, they [school authorities] seek the consent of both the ward\u2019s parents and teachers before taking such decisions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is the advantage of rushing a slow learner through the system and then he ends up by making 8 Fs?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, some parents are sometimes compelled to ask school authorities to repeat their wards due to their poor academic performance.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Agyei called for a collaboration between teachers, parents and the media to enable students excel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c For us to obtain good results, the teacher must teach but the students should also learn well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary School (CHASS), has said not all of the 250 students of Labone Senior High School in Accra who have been cited for poor performance will be sent home.
