{"id":53897,"date":"2014-10-06T14:04:42","date_gmt":"2014-10-06T14:04:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=53897"},"modified":"2014-10-06T14:09:16","modified_gmt":"2014-10-06T14:09:16","slug":"shop-owners-return-to-neoplan-station-after-demolition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=53897","title":{"rendered":"Shop owners return to Neoplan station after demolition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Traders at the Neoplan Station, near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, have resumed their businesses just a day after shops at the station were destroyed by the Department of Urban Roads.<\/p>\n<p>Several structures at the station and around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle were <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/05\/shops-at-kwame-nkrumah-circle-demolished\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>demolished on Sunday<\/strong><\/span><\/a> to pave way for the construction of a three-tier interchange, which, when completed, will transform the Circle into a pedestrian and motorist-friendly zone that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/09\/circle-interchange-will-save-ghana-25m-annually\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>will save Ghana about US$25million annually<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, according to experts.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_8880.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_8880\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_8880.jpg\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;wFfmmixVUhJQoDDXMnhiRz30hmFpKkNm&#8221;]<strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u00a0checks revealed some of the traders had returned and were selling in the midst of the rubble.<\/p>\n<p>Some however insisted they have not returned to the station to sell, but rather expressed their displeasure at the Department of Urban Roads\u00a0for issuing a short notice prior to the demolition exercise.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_8864.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_8864\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_8864.jpg\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They had to wait, give us time, about six months to clear out of the station. They didn\u2019t do that. They just brought the bulldozers. I was in church when I was called. It is not good,\u201d lamented a trader who spoke to <b>Citi News.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_8861.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_8861\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_8861.jpg\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Other traders were unhappy because they claim they do not have anywhere else to go and should have been compensated or given enough time to find other places to move their shops to before the demolition.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_8883.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_8883\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_8883.jpg\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Department of Urban Roads has however denied the claims by the shop-owners, insisting that they had compensated the traders and had given them prior notice of the demolition, way before the scheduled time.<\/p>\n<p>A representative of the Department told <strong>Citi News :\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThey were given notice from the Urban Roads office two weeks ago, it is impossible how can this thing happen without compensating them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_8859.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_8859\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_8859.jpg\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Edwin Kwakofi\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Traders at the Neoplan Station, near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, have resumed their businesses just a day after shops at the station were destroyed by the Department of Urban Roads.
