The number of cholera cases in the Volta Region has seen a significant rise with over 400 cases, killing six people.<\/p>\n
The number has risen from an initial figure of 201<\/strong><\/span><\/a> on September 28, 2014.<\/p>\n Dr. Joseph Teye-Nuetey, the Volta Regional Health Director disclosed to citifmonline.com<\/b> and said the Ketu-South district recorded the highest number of cases, with 175 cases and two deaths.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”ryH1UcEpQFyUXPaFBlIpcrGiVqZssLG5″]This is a sharp increase compared to the 65 cases recorded on September 22.<\/p>\n Also, the Nkwanta South recorded 111 cases with four deaths, Ho-West, 12 cases, Ketu-North 47 cases and the Ho Municipality recorded four cases.<\/p>\n Dr. Joseph Teye-Nuetey however said his outfit is now focusing more Dr. Joseph Teye-Nuetey on the Hohoe and Nkwanta North municipalities that are currently experiencing the outbreak.<\/p>\n The number of cases recorded in the Hohoe Municipality is now 49 and Nkwanta North recording four according the regional director.<\/p>\n In an interview with citifmonline.com<\/b> the health director said they have intensified sensitization exercises in those areas to avert further spread of the epidemic.<\/p>\n He said, \u201conce a case is detected the officers moves into the community to trace those the infected person might have had contact with and sensitize the community members about the disease.\u201d<\/p>\n Apart from the three regions in the north of Ghana, the outbreak has ravaged through seven<\/strong><\/span><\/a> regions of the country, affecting over 10,000 and killing more than 120 people.<\/p>\n However cholera cases in some of the worst affected areas in Accra have begun seeing some level of decline<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n In the La Dadekotopon area, the infection rate has declined by about 50% in the last thirty days.<\/p>\n In the Accra Metropolitan Assembly the number of reported cases has decline by about 20%.<\/p>\n The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has embarked on a move to close down local restaurants (chop bars)<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and relatively high end ones<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>that sell food under unhygienic conditions to customers in a bid to halt the spread of the disease.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: King Norbert Akpablie<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The number of cholera cases in the Volta Region has seen a significant rise with over 400 cases, killing six people.
