Financial analyst, Sydney Casely-Hayford has accused the government of insincerity in its “seeming” fight against the growing spate of corruption in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Casely-Hayford noted that the inability of leadership of the nation to deal with persons engaged in acts of corrupt is indicative that they [government] do not have the interest of the nation at heart.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur governments are very insincere to the people of this country even though they know these things are wrong and can be fixed; they are not doing anything about it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”Otnwj8O6qZEf1Au5pKgac4xGbTYXUQik”]The nation over the last few years has been hit by a series of corruption scandals including the payment of GHC 51 million to businessman, Alfred Woyome, corruption in government intervention initiatives such as the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) and Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) and recently, the alleged corrupt acts which took place during Ghana\u2019s participation in the 2014 World Cup tournament.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Citi News<\/strong>, the anti-graft campaigner insisted that government can only prove the critics of the administration wrong by prosecuting those engaged in corruption.<\/p>\n

He attributed government\u2019s failure to prosecute indicted persons to \u201cthe simple fact that they have parochial interests which they want to propagate and carry on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s all about stealing, it\u2019s all about theft. Look at the Brazil thing, it doesn\u2019t make any sense and if we had a truly good President, who really had the people of this country at heart, by now we should be prosecuting Elvis Afriyie [immediate past Sports Minister] and his people,\u201d he opined.<\/p>\n

Casely-Hayford suggested the work which has so far been done by the Presidential commission of enquiry investigating Ghana\u2019s participation in the 2014 World Cup should be handed over to Economic and Organized Crime Office\u00a0(EOCO) \u201cand let EOCO come up with what it needs to be done and done independently without any interference from the government.\u201d<\/p>\n
