{"id":50895,"date":"2014-09-25T17:22:19","date_gmt":"2014-09-25T17:22:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=50895"},"modified":"2014-09-25T17:38:03","modified_gmt":"2014-09-25T17:38:03","slug":"street-naming-exercise-completed-in-tolon-tamale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=50895","title":{"rendered":"Street naming exercise completed in Tolon, Tamale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ongoing nationwide street naming exercise is progressing in the Northern Region as the\u00a0Tolon District and Tamale Metropolitan Assemblies have successfully completed the exercise ahead of the deadline.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;fccKu81MrTlM0hCyWd7tDNrQNBDT0UdW&#8221;]This is in compliance with President John Mahama\u2019s directive asking all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to name their streets for easy identification.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In Tolon, some of the named streets include Palace, Yepelgu, Dimabi, the Assembly, Beyom palace, Kukuonayili, Naa Damba, J.S Kaleem and Fehini Streets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tolon District Chief Executive, Seidu Abubakari who was very instrumental in the whole exercise named two streets in Nyankpala community after two illustrious sons of the area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/streetnaming_northern11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-50900\" alt=\"streetnaming_northern1\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/streetnaming_northern11-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/streetnaming_northern11-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/streetnaming_northern11-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One was named after the late Naa J.S Kaleem for his immense contribution towards the development of education in Northern Ghana.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The other one was named in honour of the late Naa Roland W. Damba.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The DCE, Seidu Abubakari eulogized the late Naa Roland W. Damba for being one of the revered chiefs of Nyankpala who ruled from 1946 to 1978.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/streetnaming_northern2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-50901\" alt=\"streetnaming_northern2\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/streetnaming_northern2-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/streetnaming_northern2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/streetnaming_northern2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to him, Naa Roland W. Damba was an agricultural extension officer who helped to establish the Nyankpala Agric Centre which metamorphosed into the Savannah Agriculture Research Institute (SARI).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Tolon DCE explained that it was meant to encourage youth in the area to acquire high academic laurels.<br \/>\nHe reiterated the need for residents of the Tolon District to be law abiding and deepen their peaceful co-existence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Equally, the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has named all passable alleys within the enclave of the business capital city.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/streetnaming_northern3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-50903\" alt=\"streetnaming_northern3\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/streetnaming_northern3-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/streetnaming_northern3-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/streetnaming_northern3-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A total of 150 streets representing the first phase of the exercise have being completed under the strict supervision of the Mayor of Tamale, Abdul Hanan Gundado.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These include Dakpema, Gulkpegu, Dagomba and Nyaniba streets.<br \/>\nAccording to the Tamale Mayor, the second phase will be the naming of households in the Tamale Metro Area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He called for concerted efforts to uplift the image of Tamale which has being touted as the middle of the Sahel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He also urged residents of the metropolis to promote good sanitary practices in their localities to avoid cholera.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The ongoing nationwide street naming exercise is progressing in the Northern Region as the\u00a0Tolon District and Tamale Metropolitan Assemblies have successfully completed the exercise ahead of the deadline.
