A former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe is urging the state to pursue the assault case meted out by Baffour Gyan against a Graphic reporter.<\/p>\n

Daniel Kenu was allegedly assaulted by former Black Stars striker, Baffour Gyan, a day before the team played its opening\u00a02015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

The reporter subsequently\u00a0initiated a court action<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0against the former striker but on Friday,\u00a0Mr Kenu dropped all assault charges<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0against Baffour Gyan, on health and personal grounds.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Ken Ashigbey, vowed to pursue the case to its logical conclusion<\/span><\/a><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is unclear whether the Graphic Communications Group Limited would still proceed with the case despite the decision by the reporter.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”4lbaZ6pUxYeUf2x1XumUb2Vhl37tQzxz”]But speaking on Citi Fm\u2019s Eye Witness News <\/b>on Friday, Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe said \u201cI am so disappointed and disturbed\u201d over the action by Daniel Kenu \u201cbecause it eliminates the possibility of bringing to justice against the people who believe they are above the law.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that what happened was a display of arrogance and if the perpetrators are not punished, it leaves a dangerous precedence for this country.<\/p>\n

He said “the case is a criminal one and the perpetrators must be punished.”<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if the complainant no longer wishes to pursue the matter, I think the State has a vested interest in prosecuting Baffour Gyan and his accomplice. To me this is a criminal case,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Dr Tamakloe further stated that \u201cThis attack was not an attack on one person, it was an attack on a democratic institution and am talking about the Graphic itself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, speaking on the same programme, Lawyer Yaw Oppong, a private legal practitioner indicated that prosecuting an assault case largely depends on the complainant.<\/p>\n

He explained; \u201cwhen an offense is committed against an individual it is the individual who determines whether the case is sent to court or not. There are certain kind of offenses that \u2026the persons involved may be\u00a0 given the opportunity to settle the matter out of court.\u201d<\/p>\n
