{"id":47894,"date":"2014-09-15T18:35:58","date_gmt":"2014-09-15T18:35:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=47894"},"modified":"2014-09-15T19:08:17","modified_gmt":"2014-09-15T19:08:17","slug":"outstanding-pledges-hampering-ebola-fight-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=47894","title":{"rendered":"Outstanding pledges hampering Ebola fight \u2013 Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President John Mahama has revealed that failure of donors who pledged financial support for the West African Sub-region to fight the deadly Ebola disease to fulfill their promises is hampering the fight against the disease.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;n3CXXYInEl9cwlbccLhwt3rZZaRQViI1&#8243;]President Mahama, who is also the chairman of the Economic Community for West African Countries (ECOWAS), revealed this during a<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/15\/mahama-to-visit-ebola-stricken-countries-today\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">\u00a0visit to three of the worst affected countries<\/span><\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea) today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of money has been pledged but most of it is not on the ground yet and been put into effect,\u201d President Mahama stated.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/liberia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-47898\" alt=\"liberia\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/liberia.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/liberia.jpg 640w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/liberia-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He said the situation is hampering the region&#8217;s determination to check the spread of the disease.<\/p>\n<p>Ebola has so far claimed over 20,000 lives in the West African sub region.<\/p>\n<p>Though frantic efforts are underway to control the disease, the WHO has predicted that about 20,000 extra people are likely to be affected in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/15247965175_97fe792a9f_z-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-47905\" alt=\"15247965175_97fe792a9f_z (3)\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/15247965175_97fe792a9f_z-3.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/15247965175_97fe792a9f_z-3.jpg 640w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/15247965175_97fe792a9f_z-3-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The President has therefore emphasized the need to speed up processes to effectively fight the deadly disease.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to speed up the roll out of all these pledges.
