{"id":4757,"date":"2014-03-08T15:05:48","date_gmt":"2014-03-08T15:05:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=4757"},"modified":"2014-03-08T15:05:48","modified_gmt":"2014-03-08T15:05:48","slug":"lets-celebrate-independence-day-differently-sydney-casely-hayford","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=4757","title":{"rendered":"Let&#8217;s celebrate Independence Day differently &#8211; Sydney Casely-Hayford"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_2396\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2396\" style=\"width: 240px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Casley.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2396\" alt=\"Sydney Casely-Hayford\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Casley.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2396\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sydney Casely-Hayford<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A section of Ghanaians are calling on government to adopt new and modern ways to celebrate \u00a0Ghana&#8217;s Independence Day which will create excitement and involve all citizens.<\/p>\n<p>The call comes after Ghana&#8217;s 57th Independence Day parade on Thursday was nearly ruined by \u00a0heavy downpour.<\/p>\n<p>The day is usually marked with a grand parade and a march past \u00a0at the Black Star Square by school pupils and members of the security agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The format has been criticised and described by some \u00a0as archaic.<\/p>\n<p>One of such persons&#8217; is Financial Analyst, Sydney Casely-Hayford, who said &#8221;It&#8217;s a historical event which must be celebrated, but done very differently&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;I will like to see independence day done very differently, there are significant opportunities that we miss&#8230;; when you have an event like independence day I will like to see a week-long celebration&#8230;,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, there should be a series of activities to mark \u00a0celebrate Independence Day and &#8221;those series of event should not be just \u00a0the march past, the march past can be done one of the mornings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He also said independence celebration should bring together other people from Africa to join in all forms of events to celebrate and tell the story of Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;In the run up to Independence Day we shouldn&#8217;t only look at how we celebrate in Ghana, we should look at how we bring most of our friends in West Africa to celebrate with us; I will like to see music events, to see some fashion parade&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;Things that we will plan the whole week in doing&#8230;,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <strong>Citi FM&#8217;<\/strong>s news analysis and political programme, <em><strong>The Big Issue<\/strong><\/em>, Mr Casely-Hayford said the &#8221;walking and marching&#8221; thing is of no significance and relevance to independence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;We should have a day of culture, a day music, a day of sports, a day of civil knowledge acquisition.
