{"id":46381,"date":"2014-09-10T15:00:06","date_gmt":"2014-09-10T15:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=46381"},"modified":"2014-09-10T19:04:01","modified_gmt":"2014-09-10T19:04:01","slug":"we-havent-endorsed-mornahs-decision-to-go-to-court-pnc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=46381","title":{"rendered":"We haven\u2019t endorsed Mornah\u2019s decision to go to Court  &#8211; PNC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Peoples\u2019 National Convention (PNC) has disassociated itself from the party&#8217;s General Secretary, Bernard Mornah&#8217;s decision to challenge the provisions of the Constitutional Instrument(C.I) 75 which makes biometric verification a prerequisite for voting.<\/p>\n<p>According to Bernard Mornah, the \u201cNo Verification No Vote\u201d provision breaches article 42 of the 1992 constitution.<\/p>\n<p>His decision comes on the back of a call from the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) on the Electoral Commission (EC) to maintain and enforce the<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/08\/enforce-no-verification-no-vote-iea-tells-ec\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>\u201cno verification, no vote\u201d provision<\/strong>.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Mornah believes the confusion created by the two laws can only be resolved in court.<\/p>\n<p>His stance is however contrary to his own party\u2019s position on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;3yKuiNOYHXDEoNyFSzDUbh4182cJwdLh&#8221;]Speaking to <b>Citi News<\/b>, the PNC Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan said the party does not support the General Secretary\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as the position of the party is concerned, we have not actually endorsed that kind of action but he is an individual within the party and even though he is the General Secretary, he can go to Supreme Court for any interpretation that might not be clear to him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026PNC was part of a meeting of the IEA in Koforidua to discuss various proposals and reforms and among the things that we agreed on was &#8216;no verification, no vote&#8217;.
