The leadership of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) will today resume discussions with government over the payment of their book and research allowance after an\u00a0inconclusive meeting<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span> last week.<\/p>\n

The meeting is also aimed at getting the striking lecturers back to the classroom after five weeks of withdrawing their services.<\/p>\n

UTAG members joined their colleagues in the polytechnics who were also on strike to demand the payment of the allowance.<\/p>\n

Polytechnic lecturers however called off their three-month long strike<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span> last week after engaging in similar negotiations with the government.<\/p>\n

The polytechnics have announced they will resume academic activities this week but public universities across the country still remain closed due to the ongoing strike.<\/p>\n

The president of UTAG, Dr. Samuel Ofori Bekoe in an earlier interview with Citi News<\/strong> said although the discussions were \u201cvery fruitful\u2026we didn’t conclude.\u201d<\/p>\n

He was however optimistic that Tuesday\u2019s meeting will resolve all outstanding matters.<\/p>\n
