The chairpersons of the New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) overseas branches have officially joined other party’ members putting pressure on the leadership to scrap their October 18 national congress and allow Nana Akufo-Addo who overwhelmingly won Sunday\u2019s Super Delegates Congress to stand unopposed.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, the party\u2019s Chairman in China, Dr. Charles Dwamena who spoke on behalf of his colleagues said the\u00a0outcome of Sunday’s congress is a reflection of what would happen on October 18th<\/sup> 2014.<\/p>\n The chairmen said it is \u201ca waste of time and resources,\u201d to organize the next congress.<\/p>\n It is aimed at giving over 140,000 delegates the opportunity to choose one person to lead the party in the 2016 presidential race.<\/p>\n Speaking to Citi News <\/b>Dr. Dwamena\u00a0said the NPP will remain united behind Nana Addo.<\/p>\n \u201cWe believe that what happened yesterday is a true reflection of all our membership. We are saying so because all of us here came to vote as delegates; we didn\u2019t vote in our individual capacities. We held internal elections in our various branches, our people told us whom to vote for [and] we came here to do what our people wanted,\u201d he indicated.<\/p>\n The NPP went to the polls yesterday to reduce to five, the seven candidates bidding to lead the party in the 2016 presidential election.<\/p>\n After the elections Nana Akufo-Addo topped the list with about 81% percent from the total votes cast.<\/p>\n
