{"id":43025,"date":"2014-08-30T06:00:26","date_gmt":"2014-08-30T06:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=43025"},"modified":"2014-08-29T15:22:26","modified_gmt":"2014-08-29T15:22:26","slug":"rigid-bail-system-hurting-remand-prisoners-gimpa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=43025","title":{"rendered":"Rigid bail system hurting remand prisoners &#8211; GIMPA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">The Law Faculty of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), has called on all stakeholders to help address the problems of the country\u2019s criminal justice system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Project Coordinator of Access to Justice on Remand Prisoners at GIMPA, Isidore Tufour, told <b>Citi News <\/b>on Friday after a press briefing \u201cthat several flaws in the country\u2019s had been identified in the country\u2019s justice system,\u201d which they were seeking to address.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur criminal justice system is not the best when it comes to remanding prisoners,\u201d he said.<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>According to Mr. Tufour, a large number of the prisoners are on remand, probably as a result of \u201ca rigid bail system or \u00a0the fact that we find custodial security to be the best guarantee ensuring that accuses persons appear before court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He, however, believes that people who are suspected of committing crimes \u00a0and are remanded \u201cshould be tried within reasonable time\u201d and insisted that failure to do so was an \u201cinfringement on the fundamental rights of the person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Tufour \u00a0added that efforts were being made towards finding lasting measures to address the problems faced by the justice system.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Edwin Kwakofi\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\"><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Law Faculty of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), has called on all stakeholders to help address the problems of the country\u2019s criminal justice system.
