Liquid Waste Collectors who dump human excreta into the sea at Lavender Hill in Accra have expressed their displeasure about a court order which prevents them from dumping refuse there.<\/p>\n
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has secured a court injunction, asking residents in the area to stop dumping human excreta into the sea.<\/p>\n
Residents have up till December to stop the practice.<\/p>\n
Some liquid waste collectors are however opposing the decision by the EPA.<\/p>\n
They believe the EPA\u2019s directive will pose major challenges to them and other residents in the area.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News<\/b>, a waste collector noted that he will be unable to make ends meet if he is sacked from the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is what I use to cater for my wife and kids so if they eject me from here, how do they expect me to cater for my wife and kids,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
Another waste collector stated that the EPA\u2019s directive will not be effective since the filth in the area is not generated by waste collectors operating in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do not believe we contribute to cholera. We are rather preventing it. If your tank is full and we don\u2019t empty it and it runs over that will give us cholera. People defecate in rubber bags and throw them about. That is what gives us cholera,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
