{"id":41549,"date":"2014-08-25T06:09:01","date_gmt":"2014-08-25T06:09:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=41549"},"modified":"2014-08-25T06:09:01","modified_gmt":"2014-08-25T06:09:01","slug":"richard-attenborough-dies-aged-90","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=41549","title":{"rendered":"Richard Attenborough dies aged 90"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"story_continues_1\">Oscar-winning British film director Richard Attenborough has died at the age of 90, his son has said.<\/p>\n<p>Lord Attenborough was one of Britain&#8217;s leading actors, before becoming a highly successful director.<\/p>\n<p>In a career that spanned six decades, he appeared in films including Brighton Rock, World War Two prisoner of war thriller The Great Escape and later in dinosaur blockbuster Jurassic Park.<\/p>\n<p>As a director he was perhaps best known for Gandhi, which won him two Oscars.<\/p>\n<p id=\"story_continues_2\">Sir Ben Kingsley, who played the title role, said he would &#8220;miss him dearly&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Richard Attenborough trusted me with the crucial and central task of bringing to life a dream it took him 20 years to bring to fruition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When he gave me the part of Gandhi it was with great grace and joy. He placed in me an absolute trust and in turn I placed an absolute trust in him and grew to love him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg said Lord Attenborough was passionate about everything in his life.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He made a gift to the world with his emotional epic Gandhi and he was the perfect ringmaster to bring the dinosaurs back to life as John Hammond in Jurassic Park,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He was a dear friend and I am standing in an endless line of those who completely adored him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lord Attenborough had been in a nursing home with his wife for a number of years, BBC arts editor Will Gompertz said.<\/p>\n<p>He had also been in a wheelchair since falling down stairs six years ago, our correspondent added.<\/p>\n<p>His son told the BBC that Lord Attenborough died at lunchtime on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>His family is expected to make a full statement on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Huge impact&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Paying tribute, Prime Minister David Cameron\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/David_Cameron\">tweeted<\/a>: &#8220;His acting in &#8220;Brighton Rock&#8221; was brilliant, his directing of &#8220;Gandhi&#8221; was stunning &#8211; Richard Attenborough was one of the greats of cinema.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Actress Mia Farrow tweeted: &#8220;Richard Attenborough was the kindest man I have ever had the privilege of working with. A Prince. RIP &#8216;Pa&#8217; &#8211; and thank you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Chris Hewitt from Empire Magazine told BBC News Lord Attenborough had a &#8220;huge impact&#8221; on cinema, describing him as a &#8220;universally beloved&#8221; figure.<\/p>\n<p>Tribute was paid to the Labour peer from his party.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Lord Attenborough made an enormous contribution to our country and to the film industry both as an actor and a director. His films will be loved for generations to come,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He believed passionately in social justice and the Labour Party and was a vocal campaigner against apartheid. He will be sadly missed.
