{"id":41383,"date":"2014-08-23T12:31:10","date_gmt":"2014-08-23T12:31:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=41383"},"modified":"2014-08-23T12:31:10","modified_gmt":"2014-08-23T12:31:10","slug":"dozens-killed-in-car-mine-collapse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=41383","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Dozens killed&#8217; in CAR mine collapse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"story_continues_1\">At least 25 people have died in a gold mine collapse in the Central African Republic, officials say.<\/p>\n<p>The mine, near the city of Bambari, is controlled by mainly Muslim Seleka rebels who are operating it illegally.<\/p>\n<p>A senior government official in the capital, Bangui, said the mine did not follow regulations.<\/p>\n<p>The CAR has been torn by fighting between the Seleka and Christian militia, known as anti-Balaka, for over a year.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<a title=\"link to news article\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-africa-23046572\">collapse at the same mine in the town of Ndassima last year<\/a>killed dozens.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of people began exploiting the mine illegally after its owner, Canada&#8217;s Axmin, shut it down in 2012 because of security concerns.<\/p>\n<p>An estimated 20% of inhabitants have fled their homes in the conflict which began as Seleka rebels seized power in March 2013.<\/p>\n<p>This gave rise to the creation of largely Christian anti-Balaka militias and the situation descended into ethno-religious violence.<\/p>\n<p>The Seleka leader, Michel Djotodia, stood down as president in January as part of regional efforts to end the fighting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At least 25 people have died in a gold mine collapse in the Central African Republic, officials say.
